 Books for sale

The paper versions of the first four books below are on A4 paper and comb bound. They stress hard-to-find information and detail over production values and pretty pictures. The detail in them is not obtainable elsewhere, unless you read Russian.

How Odessa became Red

This is the book I wrote with Tom Hillman and Alexis Mehtidis on the French Intervention in the Ukraine in early 1919. We sell it in .pdf form for US$10; on CD for that sum plus cost of CD and shipping; paper copies are sometimes possible, upon request, for US$20.

Aimed at wargamers mainly, but not ignoring other aspects of the sordid affair, it gives all the detail needed to fight the battles as well as explaining the causes of the defeat rather better than the accounts of general texts.

Armored Automobiles of the Russian Civil War

By Tom Hillman. This is everything you need to know about armoured cars in the RCW (and Polish-Soviet war): including organisation, doctrine and orders of battle. For pretty pictures, see the Osprey books on RCW Armour, but for detailed information this is the only real source. US$20 in printed form.

Trans-Dnepr Operation: General Baron Wrangel’s Last Operation in the RCW

By Tom Hillman. A hugely detailed look at a very interesting operation which included opposed river crossings, tanks assaulting a fortified city and mass cavalry battles. Unlike so many books about military operations it gives both sides of the story. US$20 in printed form.

Kornilovski Shock Regiment

By Tom Hillman. The translation from Russian of a complete history of the most famous regiment of the RCW, from its founding to the evacuation from the Crimea. On the way it deals with a few myths about the Kornilovskis. US$20 in printed form.

Nik Cornish's new book

Nik wrote the Osprey Men-at-Arms title about the Russian Army in WWI, which is an esential purchase for those painting miniatures of the Whites. (He has also written highly regarded books on the Eastern Front in WWII.)

His latest effort is:

The Russian Army in the First World War

ISBN - 1-86227-288-3
publisher - Spellmount
address c/o Tempus Publishing, the Mill, Brinscombe Port, Stroud, Glos, GL5 2QG, UK.
price £20.00

It covers WW1 on the Eastern Front, from the Russian perspective, with about 150 images, virtually all unseen in the west. The images are drawn from various sources including Russian archives, private collections including that of Steve Locker-Lampson (son of Oliver of RNACD fame) and Steve Perry. Contents include a couple of interesting appendices, such as one on the TAON and another on Chemical warfare, and good maps.
